Automated technology is expected to cause mass displacement of garment workers around the world.

According to the International Labour Organization, sewing automation is projected to lead to mass displacement of the 65 million garment workers around the world.

The percentage of workers facing high risk of displacement range from 60 to 80 percent of garment workers in countries, such as Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam by 2050.

Automation is already displacing workers in Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Automation will have serious repercussions for countries that heavily rely on apparel manufacturing.
